75 COVID-19 deaths recorded for June

–as Health Ministry reports four more fatalities

THE Ministry of Health, on Thursday confirmed four more COVID-19 deaths for the month of June, 2021, taking the death toll for that month to 75, and the overall toll to 473.
June has been confirmed as the second deadliest month for the virus in Guyana. The latest fatalities are two females and a male, aged 71, 34 and 54 respectively, from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), and a female, aged 91, from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), who were all admitted with COVID-19-like symptoms, but died while receiving medical care at Ministry of Health facilities. According to additional information from the Ministry of Health, there were 87 new cases of COVID-19, with 1,019 tests carried out for June 30, 2021.
Of these cases, Region One (Barima-Waini) accounted for five; Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 22; Region Four, 40; Region Six, 18, and Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice), two.

The newly-infected persons were 47 males and 40 females. Presently, 14 persons occupy the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while 100 are institutionally isolated, 1,460 are isolated at home, and three are institutionally quarantined. Of Guyana’s 20,142 confirmed cases since the detection of COVID-19 here, 1,577 are active, and currently being monitored, while 69 of Guyana’s 18,109 recoveries were recorded within the past 24 hours. All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six-foot physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
