OLYMPIC-BOUND bantamweight boxer, Keevin Allicock, has gotten a further boost for his journey to next month’s Games in Tokyo as ANSA McAL Trading Limited has given him G$150 000 to aid in his preparation. The 22-year-old Allicock will become the first Guyanese boxer in 25 years to compete at the Olympics, and according to Treiston Joseph, Corporate Communications Officer at ANSA McAL Trading Limited, this support is just the start of a great plan by the company to support this boxer and other athletes in the future.
“The (Guyaa Boxing) Association reached out to us, it was short notice. This is just the start of the partnership in ensuring we will go forward when he returns. ANSA McAL has been a trendsetter at this particular point of Guyana’s sport where we look forward to having a relationship with our athletes,” Joseph expressed.
Allicock thanked ANSA McAL for the support and offered some advice to other young athletes who may want to achieve similarly, noting that they need to work extremely hard and keep believing. “You need to stay focussed, the years that passed met was a moment just to teach me, a moment that prepared me for this moment. It is a journey, just don’t focus on the destination, you have to work during the journey,” he said. Allicock is set to depart Guyana on Tuesday for Russia where he will spend the next three weeks in a high-performance camp, before he heads to Tokyo for the July 23 to August 8 showpiece.
