THE construction of a state-of-the-art facility to house teachers and children of the Queenstown Nursery School located in Region Two, will soon begin.
The $31.7M contract was awarded to Kamta Persaud of K&J Contracting Services of Queenstown. Persaud and the region’s Deputy Regional Executive Officer, Susanna Saywack, signed the contract document during a simple ceremony on Thursday.
Saywack in brief remarks urged the contractor to ensure that he produces quality work and reminded him that the project will be continuously monitored by the regional engineers and officials.
She said the Government of Guyana is spending millions of dollars on the education sector and as such, the quality of work is important, especially when building a school.

The school’s children and teachers have been occupying the lower flat of the Aberdeen Zorg-en-Vlyght Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) office building for a number of years.
The new school will be constructed next to the Queenstown Primary School and will be done according to the Ministry of Education’s non-academic standards.
Elated parents and teachers told the Guyana Chronicle that they have been waiting for years for the project to materialise.
They thanked the government and the regional administration for their efforts in ensuring that the contract was awarded.
Earlier this month, work on the Mabel Sandy Nursery at Wakapoa was completed. Recently, a multi-million dollar contract was signed for the construction of the Abram Zuil Secondary School. These contracts were approved under the Department of Education’s capital projects for 2021.
