THE Guyana Police Force Regional Division Six (East Berbice – Corentyne) arrested four drivers during a traffic exercise on Saturday for displaying blue and red lights from the headlamps of their vehicles.

According to a press release from Police Headquarters, the four drivers are to be charged for failing to comply with the prescribed conditions attached to the fitness of their motor vehicles — the section under which drivers using red and blue lights are charged.

Regulation 34 (1) (a) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act states that “every motor vehicle…during the hours of darkness shall carry two lamps, each showing to the front a white light visible from a reasonable distance,” making it an offence for persons to equip their vehicles with coloured headlights.

During the traffic exercise, the ranks also apprehended two drivers who are to be charged with driving under the influence and driving an unlighted vehicle, respectively.

The exercise comes as the Guyana Police Force (GPF) re-intensifies its campaign against errant road users, Police Headquarters noted, and they reminded members of the public that they have a responsibility to abide by the laws of Guyana, as the force continues to engage communities and other stakeholders in the continuous fight against, and prevention of crime.
