‘Passenger’ accused of robbing taxi driver at gunpoint remanded

DENNIS Johnson, who is accused of robbing a taxi driver of his motorcar and other valuables at gunpoint, was, on Monday, remanded to prison by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs – Marcus when he made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The Stevedore resident denied that, on May 20, 2021, at Cane View Avenue, Georgetown, he, while being in the company of another, robbed Ulric Da Silva of one motorcar, HC8838, valued at $3,600,000, one cellular phone valued at $4000 and $4000 cash.

According to the prosecution, Johnson hired Da Silva to transport him to South Ruimveldt. Moments after arriving at the destination, Johnson and his accomplice held Da Silva at gunpoint and relieved him of the articles mentioned in the charge.

The matter was reported. The car was later recovered but no arrest was made at that time.

On June 4, 2021, while at the Brickdam Police Station inquiring about another matter, Da Silva saw Johnson and pointed him out to the ranks as one of the persons who had robbed him.

Johnson was arrested and later charged.

The matter was adjourned until June 18, 2021.
