Four more COVID-19 deaths, 48 new cases

FOLLOWING four recently confirmed COVID-19 deaths, Guyana’s overall toll now stands at 409, the Ministry of Health announced on Sunday.
The latest fatalities are three females: a 45-year-old from Region Four died on June 2; a 51-year-old from Region Six who died on June 3,; and an 82-year-old from Region Seven who died on June 4, along with a 68-year-old male from Region Two who died on June 4. They all died while receiving attention at a medical facility.
There are currently 1,888 active COVID-19 cases in Guyana following the addition of 48 new cases as at June 6, the ministry’s daily COVID-19 dashboard revealed.
Even as new cases were recorded, 24 persons were reported to have recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 15,374.
The 48 newly confirmed cases were recorded in Regions Three, Four, Five, Six, Nine and 10. Thirty of the newly confirmed cases were females with the remaining 18 being males.
Region Four accounted for 30 of the new cases. Region Three recorded four new cases; Regions Five, one; and Region Six, two; Region Nine, eight; and Region 10, three.

It was reported that the new cases came from among the 814 tests that were conducted. The country has now recorded a total of 17,665 confirmed cases since the first COVID-19 case was reported in March 2020. Of those still infected, 20 are being kept in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the National Infectious Diseases Hospital, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown.
Currently, there are 103 persons in institutional isolation, 1,759 are in home isolation and six are in institutional quarantine. Many of the persons infected with the virus are said to be asymptomatic, that is, they are not exhibiting symptoms. The updated COVID–19 Emergency Measures are in force from June 1, 2021 to June 30, 2021. They may be extended or amended by notice of the Minister of Health, after an assessment of the prevailing public health conditions of the pandemic.
As per the current measures, all persons are required to wear face masks when leaving their homes. Physical distancing and adequate sanitization are also important. The current curfew time is 22:30hrs to 04:00hrs. Persons with symptoms of COVID-19 are asked to call the COVID-19 hotline numbers: 231-1166, 226-7480, or 180/181 for assistance.
