REGIONAL Executive Officer (REO) of Region Two, (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Devanand Ramdatt, has said that flood relief packages will be given to those persons who were severely affected by flooding in the region.

During an interview with members of the press on Saturday, Ramdatt said that the regional administration held discussions with the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development and the Community Development Council (CDC) where it was decided that hampers will be sent to the region.

He said that already two trucks were packed with flood-relief items in Georgetown destined for Region Two.
Meanwhile, the REO said that teams, comprising regional engineers, were dispatched to various areas in the Pomeroon and on the coastland to assess the situation.

Ramdatt noted that the regional administration, the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) and the Sea Defence committee, will be working collaboratively to fix most of the infrastructure.

Ramdatt said that sluices and pumps are operable, except a pump at Charity, but efforts are being made to rectify this.

Most areas in the region remain flooded as a result of the continuous heavy rainfall coupled with severe high tides. As such, he noted that the authorities will remain vigilant and will continue to monitor all the D&I structures in the region.

“The flooding situation in the region requires a collaborative effort, the team is dedicated… to monitoring all sluices and pumps and provide a responsive approach,” Ramdatt said.
