FORMER Berbice Inter-county cricketer Derick Narine slammed a huge ton in quick time to lift Majestic Cricket Club to a 291-run win over Intruders when action in the New York National Cricket League Caribbean Fest 40-over competition continued recently. Majestic Cricket Club won the toss and opted to take first strike. With skipper Narine leading the charge, they were able to smash 417-7 from 30 overs (restricted due to heat). Narine and former National Under-19 cricketer Chris Patandin put together 127-run for the opening wicket before the latter fell for 46 from 27 balls (9×4, 1×6). Yutesh Dhanpaul (former Zeeburg CC cricketer) then partnered with Narine and the pair added a further 96 runs. Dhanpaul finished with 37 runs (4×4, 2×6) from 20 balls. When Narine fell for 164 off of just 62 balls with 21 fours and nine sixes at an astonishing 264.52 strike rate, Damion Vantull and Dedinauth Persaud took over.
UG and Tucber Park CC cricketer Vantull (who travelled from Guyana for the competition), scored 45 runs from just 14 balls after hitting six sixes and two fours, while Persaud struck 56 (5×4, 4×6) from 24 balls to push the score past the 400 mark. In reply, Dhaniram Sewnarain finished with 3-12 from three overs, Narine took down the openers to finish with 2-32 from four overs, while Dhanpaul was miserly against the middle order with 2-8 from six overs to lead Majestic. Two of the Intruders’ batsmen reached double figures, but none had adequate firepower as the side succumbed for 126 in 27 overs.
