… Ramson inducted as 6th RHTYSC Patron
THE Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS (RHTYSC) last Sunday hosted a smaller version of its annual award ceremony at the St Francis Community Developers Training Hall.
The awards ceremony, the 31st of the Club’s history was held under strict COVID-19 guidelines and was highlighted by a feature address by newly inducted Honorary Patron Charles Ramson Jr. Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster provided the gathering with a comprehensive report of the club’s history, major achievements during the period 1990 to 2021 and its activities over the last 18 months. He noted that Kevlon Anderson and Kevin Sinclair made their debuts at the Under-19 and International 20/20 level respectively for the West Indies, while the club was able to win 8 Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) cricket titles at several levels despite the COVID-19 pandemic Other major activities included the Basil Butcher Trust Fund donation of cycles and gear to less fortunate youths, COVID-19 hampers project, upgrade of the Club Office, Christmas Village, Club Review Magazine, Youth Information Booklet, Say No/Say Yes Programme, Solar Lights project, Cycles project and Donation of sports gear.

Foster stated that the RHTYSC successfully completed 709 activities in 2020, 34 less than 2019 but nine above the revised target after the club was closed down for two months last year due to the pandemic. A total of 315 activities have been completed in 2021 to date with special emphasis been placed on education, anti-drugs, anti-alcohol, community development, COVID-19 and less fortunate families. Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport Charles Ramson Jr was inducted by RHTYSC, MS Youth Ambassador Denica Henry as the club’s sixth official Patron.
The Patron informed club members of his ministry’s work to return Guyana’s cricket to democracy. He also shared his vision for Sports, Culture and Education.
Ramson also underscored the fact that nation-building is a team sport as he congratulated all the awardees. Ramson also added that there is no tolerance for harshness and unfairness in sports administration whilst commending the club for the exemplary role they have been championing over its 31-year history.
Fourteen outstanding Guyanese were awarded the Club’s highest award, The Dolphin Award of Excellence.
They were Esaun Crandon, Romario Samaroo, Brandon Corlette, Ananda E.T. Dharry, Dr Cecil Beharry, Dr Ghansham Sukhdeo, Police Inspector Sonia Griffith Ward, Anasha Ally, the late Terry Holder, Navindra Persaud and Member of Parliament Faizal Jaffarally, Leila Ramson, Charles Ramson Sr and the Patron himself. They were honoured for their role model status and contribution to national development. Twenty- four members were also recognised for their contribution to the development of the club during the period 1990-2021.
The members who received the RHTYSC Zenith Award of Excellence were Lucy and Terry Pike, Joyce Wiggins, Moonish Singh, Navin Raghoo, Patrick Lewis, Leon Wiggins, Errol and Ashton Hendrax, Simon Naidu, Joel Pike, Ravindranauth Kissoonlall, Keith Hicks, Dawn Hicks, Elizabeth Brush, Pamela Brush, Mark Papannah, Franklyn Ross, Sohan Harry, Neville Beaton,
Gregory Rambarran and Bridgette McDonald. Several of the Club’s junior cricketers received the Neil Williams Award of Excellence for outstanding performance at the junior level.
Those honoured with medals, framed certificates and a collection of gifts were Junior Sinclair, Keith Simpson, Sylus Tyndall, Mahendra Gopilall, Jonathan Rampersaud, Jeremy Sandia, Chanderpaul Govindhan, Matthew Pottaya and Oma Matadin.
Other awardees during the well-organised ceremony were Disciplined Male Member – Kevin Ramnarine, Disciplined Female Member – Marian Samaroo, Worker-of-the-Year Simon Naidu, while special awards were presented to Sinclair and Anderson for their West Indies debuts.
