A security guard attached to WD’s Hotel and Mall at Charity, Region Two, was, early Wednesday morning, held at gunpoint by two men, who later broke into the building and escaped with $3.3 million in cellphones and electronic tablets. Police have been able to identify one of the suspects after reviewing CCTV footage.
According to information reaching the Guyana Chronicle, the duo stole the electronic devices from a stall located in a building that is owned by Deleep Singh. The building houses a mall, a hotel and a conference centre. According to police, the duo approached the security guard asking to rent a room. While the guard was attempting to assist them, the men pulled out “black handguns”. They pointed their weapons at the man while demanding money. The gunmen later removed $5000, along with a bunch of keys that belonged to the hotel, from the security guard’s pocket. The duo attempted to tie his hands but failed. They then went to the bottom flat of the building where they broke into a cell phone store and stole a quantity of cellular phones valued at $3million and $300,000 worth in E-tablets before escaping. The matter was reported to the Charity Police Station where detectives reviewed CCTV footage.
No arrest has been made as yet.
