FOUR Guyanese cricketers, including the dominant Chris Patandin and Derick Narine spearheaded a batting onslaught against Bronx Cricket Club, to lead Majestic Cricket Club to a 172-run victory when action in the New York National Cricket League, Caribbean Fest 40-over tournament continued recently at Cunningham Park.
Former National U-19 cricketer Patandin, fresh off his double-century (205) for Everest/ACS against Ocean’s XI, opened the batting with Narine, who plays his Saturday cricket for Richmond Hill Liberty CC.
Some of the Guyanese cricketers represent different clubs in different competitions.
In the clash, Patandin and Narine (who captained the side) opened the batting and stormed to 92 runs in 7.3 overs before the former fell. The ex-Everest CC batsman scored 40 of his 45 runs in boundaries (10×4).
Recent migrant Yutesh Dhanpaul (former Zeeburg CC cricketer) then joined Narine and the two continued to bat their team to dominance. The pair put on 111 runs for the second wicket with Narine (a former Berbice inter-country cricketer) hitting 91 from 62 balls (10×4, 4×6).
Dhanpaul finished with 47 (3×4, 1×6), while UG and Tucber Park CC cricketer Damion Vantull (who travelled from Guyana for the competition) smashed a quick 65. His innings included four fours and four sixes from 41 balls.
When Vantull fell in the 33rd over, Majestic had already passed the 300 mark. In the end, they finished their 35 overs (reduced) on 325-5.
Bronx CC could not keep up with the needed run rate and ended their innings on 153-6. Dhanpaul and Nicholas Ramrattan picked up two wickets each for the winners.
