MANY villages on the Essequibo Coast and in the riverine areas will soon benefit from government-installed WiFi, free of cost, according to Region Two Chairperson, Vilma De Silva.
De Silva made this revelation to councillors during a recent meeting of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC).

In responding to opposition councillor, Trevor Cozier’s comment that many students in the Lower Pomeroon River are requesting the WiFi service to get their assignments done, she said such a facility will be installed through the Prime Minister’s office.
Cozier, during the meeting, stated that many are doing online courses and are finding that the purchasing of data is very expensive.
It was then that he was informed by De Silva, who was the chair of the RDC meeting, that a team from the National Data Management Authority (NDMA) visited the region to assess how many of the hubs were functioning. She said that based on that assessment, the necessary recommendations were made for WiFi in several areas.
She also said discussions were held with the team to ensure that priority will be given to the Pomeroon and hinterland communities.
Cozier subsequently commended the efforts of the NDMA and called on them to speed up the process so that the students in particular can benefit.
