Man gets 18 months for stealing cash from uncle

DOMET Ernest was on Friday sentenced to 18 months in prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after admitting that he stole $700,000 from his uncle.
Ernest pleaded guilty to the larceny charge during an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
According to the particulars of the charge, he, on May 6, 2021, at Fine Diamond Landing, Cuyuni River, stole the money from Kenrick Williams, who’s his uncle.
According to the prosecution, on the day in question, Williams, his wife and Ernest were “having a few drinks” at the location mentioned in the charge, and when the couple realised they’d had enough, they retired to bed.
Ernest, on realising that his aunt and uncle were intoxicated, seized the opportunity to take the money and flee to Georgetown.
On his return to Imbaimadai, sometime later, he was contacted by police, arrested and subsequently charged.
