Herstelling couple beaten, robbed by armed bandits

A quiet Tuesday ended tragically for a married couple of Herstelling, East Bank of Demerara (EBD), as they were bounded, beaten and robbed by two armed bandits.
Reports are that one of the victims, a 50-year-old taxi driver, after closing and securing a shop he operates at his house, was attending to his pets around 20:40 hours when he was attacked by two males, who reportedly forced him into his house through the back door.
During the ordeal, the taxi driver/shopkeeper was gun-butted and beaten about the body. The assailants then turned their attention to the man’s wife, who was also in the house, before bounding the hands of both victims and ransacking the house.
According to police reports, the bandits managed to escape with a Samsung S8 cellular phone valued at $80,000; a Samsung J3 cellular phone valued at $40,000; a Samsung 65-inch smart television; a quantity of gold jewellery valued at $500,000 and US$1,200 in cash.
The matter was reported to the police and investigations are underway.
