‘Long Hair’ appeals life imprisonment sentence

MUNILALL Sarjoo called “Long Hair” has moved to the Court of Appeal to have overturned his life imprisonment sentence and conviction for the murder of Levan Chandarpaul, whose body was found in a shallow grave at Number 68 Village, Corentyne, Berbice in 2016.
In March, Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall, at the Berbice High Court, had imposed the sentence on Sarjoo and ordered that he be eligible for parole after he serves 25 years. A 12-member jury had found him guilty of murdering Chandarpaul, between August 22 and 24, 2016.
Dissatisfied with the court, Sarjoo has now moved to the Court of Appeal to challenge his conviction and the severity of the sentence.
According to reports, Chandarpaul’s body was found with his hands and feet bound on August 24, 2016, in the backdam two days after he was last seen alive in the company of Sarjoo. His cause of death was given as internal bleeding of the skull.
