–143 new cases recorded within 24 hours
TWO COVID-19 deaths recorded by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday have pushed the death toll to 295, a figure which is reflected in the April 29 edition of the COVID dashboard.
The latest fatalities are two females, a 63-year-old and a 59-year-old from Region Three (Essequibo Islands–West Demerara). They both died on Thursday while receiving medical care at a government facility. There are now 62 documented COVID-19 deaths for the month of April. Additionally, the Ministry of Health has recorded 143 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,240 tests conducted on Wednesday, April 28. Of this total, Region One (Barima-Waini) recorded three; Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), one; Region Three, 22; Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), 80; Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), five; Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), seven; Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), 21, and Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice), one.
The newly infected persons were 17 males and 36 females. There are currently 16 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 88 in institutional isolation, 1,597 isolated at home, and eight in institutional quarantine. Guyana has confirmed a total of 13,106 cases of COVID-19 since its arrival in Guyana. Of that number, 1,709 are currently active; and of the 11,110 recoveries, 40 were recorded within the past 24 hours. All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
