MELLSHIAN Bharrat, who allegedly robbed a man at knifepoint, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Friday and was placed on $50,000 bail by Magistrate Leron Daly. Bharrat, a resident of B Field Dam Squatting Area, Sophia, pleaded not guilty to the robbery under arms charge when it was read to him. It is alleged that he, on April 7, 2021, at Kitty Seawall, Georgetown, while being armed with a knife, robbed Rohit Narine of one iPhone cellular phone valued at $152,000, $6000 cash and personal documents. According to the prosecution, on the day in question, at about 19:30 hours, Narine and his girlfriend were walking along the Kitty Seawall when Bharrat approached them. Bharrat allegedly removed a knife from his pants waist and placed it near Narine’s belly before demanding that he hand over the haversack he had at the time. Narine complied and Bharrat made good his escape. The matter was reported and based on the information received, Bharrat was arrested and later charged. The matter was adjourned until May 21, 2021.
