TWO security guards attached to the National Media and Publishing Company, publisher of the Kaieteur News, were on Monday remanded to prison for the murder of a homeless man who was beaten to death at the newspaper’s premises at Saffon Street, La Penitence, Georgetown.

Tony Waldron, 39, and Yan Licorish, also 49, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and were not required to plead to the charge, which alleged that on March 16, 2021, they murdered 58-year-old Mohabir Singh.
The duo was represented by attorney-at-law Latchmie Rahamat and were remanded to prison until April 19, 2021.
According to reports, on the day in question, Singh’s lifeless body was found under a shed on the Kaieteur News premises.
A post-mortem done by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, gave Singh’s cause of death as brain haemorrhage due to blunt trauma to the head.
Initial investigations led to the arrest of the two security officers after detectives reviewed footage from CCTV cameras nearby.
