THE Ministry of Health has recorded 19 new cases of COVID-19 from 433 tests, taking the country’s overall known cases to 9,668 since recording its first case in March 2020.
Of the new cases, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) recorded one; Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), nine; Region Four, six; Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), one; Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), one, and Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice), one.
The newly infected persons were nine males and 10 females. Additionally, the death of a 69-year-old man from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), whose passing was reported in Sunday’s edition of the Chronicle, was confirmed on Monday by the Health Ministry, marking the 17th of 18 deaths recorded for the month of March. The current death toll remains at 217, but only 216 are reflected in the Ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard for March 22.
To date, there are 11 persons within the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU); 63 in institutional isolation; 856 isolated at home; and 11 in institutional quarantine.
There are 941 active cases and a total of 8,522 recoveries, 24 of which were recorded within the past 24 hours.
All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six-foot physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
