THE US Embassy Humanitarian Assistance Programme (HAP), in collaboration with the Region Three Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the police administration in that region, recently held a workshop to enhance the image of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), while creating safer communities.
HAP is an initiative under the US Embassy to assist local communities, particularly in underserved regions, in the areas of social, economic and medical development. HAP works to bring together multiple local and international agencies to reach common goals.
Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent Errol Watts, said, on Wednesday, that David Giraldo, Mitch Hensen and Joe Gozalez from the US Embassy visited the division and a meeting was held at the Recreational Hall at the Regional Headquarters, Leonora Police Station.
In a brief comment, the commander noted that the meeting focussed on youth development and strengthening community-police relations.
“After this meeting, there will be an increase in activities for the youths and ranks will continue to build a better relationship with the community; all in the aid to enhance the image of the Police Force and creating a safer environment for all,” he noted.
Meanwhile, President of the Region Three Chamber of Commerce, Halim Khan, said the collaboration was in line with President, Dr Irfaan Ali’s vision of ‘rebranding, retooling and restructuring’ the Force to better serve and protect the citizens of Guyana.
