PMCC wins Lillian Nandu Cup

… Ramnauth, Lindee among stars

THE Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) continues to push ahead with its packed 2021 Cricket Season with the hosting of another two grassroots tournaments.
The Lillian Nandu Memorial Challenge Cup was played at the historic Port Mourant Ground while the Mukesh Appiah Grassroots Cup was hosted at Kendall’s Union No1 9 Ground.
With the successful hosting of the two tournaments, BCB has now successfully completed nine of the ten grassroots tournaments it had announced one month ago.
The objectives of the tournaments are to bring back the passion for the game after an absence of over a year, to identify new talents and to allow smaller clubs an opportunity to win a BCB cricket title.

At the Port Mourant Ground, the home team defeated the University of Guyana Elites team to win their first BCB senior title in twelve years.
The historic PMCC club is currently undergoing a rebuilding process after years of decline and this championship win would serve as a major boost.
PMCC, batting first in the final after winning the toss, reached 145 for 3 off their allotted 20 overs. West Indies Under-15 player Rampertab Ramnauth scored a delightful 50 and together with Daniel Samaroo added 75 for the second wicket.
Samaroo carved three fours and a maximum while Ramnauth who was dropped on seven, struck four boundaries.
Skipper Andy Mohan made a brisk 14 before he was dismissed by off-spinner Jonathan Rampersaud who took 1 for 17 from his four overs.

In reply, UG team were set back early when Brandon Corlette was trapped lbw by Madhan Budram in a wicket-maiden second over, before Philbert Wilburg steered the chase along with Rampersaud, the pair adding 68 before the latter was stumped for 12.
Wilburg went on to score 68 (4×4, 5×4) but only received support from Linden Austin, who scored 19 as UG Elites were dismissed for 138 from 19.1 overs.
Ramnauth ended with 6-31 to complete a fine all-round performance.
Meanwhile, Port Mourant defeated Tamarind Root of Hampshire by 29 runs. PMCC scored 83 for 5 from their allotted ten overs before dismissing Tamarind Root for 54.

In the second game, UG Elites defeated John/Tain/Clifton Sports Club by 52 runs. Over at the No.19 Kendall’s Union Ground, Canje Titans created history by winning their first-ever BCB title by defeating Kendall’s Union Sports Star by 20 runs in the Mukesh Appiah Grassroots Challenge Cup.
In the opening game, Canje Titans defeated Kendall’s Union C.C while Kendall’s Sports Star got past No. 1 Road CC Canje Titans batted first in the final and amassed 123 for 7 from 15 overs.
Clifton Lindee top-scored with 53 and received support from Imran Harrianadass 26. S. Baker 2 for 14 and F. Cuttie 2 for 17 were the main bowlers for the Kendall’s Union Sports Club.
Needing to score 124 from 15 overs to win their first-ever BCB title. Kendall’s Union team were dismissed for 103 all out in 14.2 overs as Imran Hoosein 2 for 30, Cleshawn Cort 2 for 25 and M. Malcolm 3 for 19 bowled well for Canje Titans.
Only S. Baker 17, E. Garnett 26 and R. Baker 11 offered any resistance to the visitors, who celebrated their first-ever BCB title in fine style.
