Dharamlall condemns harassment of COVID-19 cash grant distributors

THERE seems to be a growing number of cases where the teams conducting the distribution of monies as part of the Government’s COVID-19 cash grant are being harassed and assaulted by members of the public. On Tuesday, reports surfaced of a woman, armed with a knife, harassing and threatening the distribution team, while assaulting a rank of the Tactical Services Unit (TSU), causing damage to his tactical vest. Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall, who oversees the countrywide distribution efforts, has condemned the growing number of attacks on the distribution teams. “I think it is heinous that the distributors are being assaulted,” Dharamlall posited. The minister made mention of a few cases occurring along the East Coast of Demerara where persons were physically attacked. The minister insisted that the Guyana Police Force must work assiduously in ensuring that “condign action” are taken against alleged assaulters.
