(CMC) – Guyana international Callum Harriott struck twice as Colchester United secured their first win in 15 matches after coming from behind to beat Carlisle United 2-1 in an English League Two match on Tuesday night.
At a foggy JobServe Community Stadium in England’s southeast, the 26-year-old UK-born winger, who made his debut for the Jaguars in 2019, cancelled out Jon Mellish’s 29th-minute opener for the Cumbrians with a 67th-minute penalty after Frank Nouble had been fouled by Dean Furman in the area.
Harriott then bagged all three points seven minutes later when he collected Tommy Smith’s pass and scored with a low 25-yard left-footed strike that goalkeeper Paul Farman could not keep out as the hosts, in 20th place, claimed a much-needed win.
Said Harriott afterwards on his social media site: “We will fight till the end. Three points and two goals, let’s go.”
In the National League, the fifth tier of the English football pyramid, Grenada striker Kairo Mitchell struck a stoppage-time equaliser to earn King’s Lynn a dramatic 2-2 draw against promotion-chasing Notts County at Meadow Lane.
Scott Wootton’s brace had appeared to earn the hosts a first win in three games, but 23-year-old Mitchell levelled following a free-kick.
In another match in the same league, Courtney Duffus, a 25-year-old forward whose father is Jamaican, scored after the break but ended on the losing side as Bromley went down 3-2 to local rivals Sutton United at Gander Green Lane.
Sutton closed the gap on league leaders Torquay to a point with a dramatic stoppage-time winner.
Michael Cheek, who scored twice in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Altrincham, had fired Ravens ahead from close range in the 14th minute.
The hosts equalised 10 minutes into the second half when captain Craig Eastmond headed in from a free-kick, only for Duffus to restore Bromley’s lead with a low drive in the 65th minute.
Sutton completed a dramatic comeback when Harry Beautyman levelled again with four minutes left.
And then, deep into stoppage-time, Will Randall’s ball into the Bromley box was deflected into his own net by Byron Webster.
