THE 23-year-old woman, who was intercepted recently at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport, Ogle, East Coast Demerara with cocaine in her vagina and stomach, was, on Wednesday. sentenced to four years’ imprisonment. Tamarah Melville appeared before Magistrate Roschelle Liverpool at the Sparedaam Magistrates’ Court. She admitted to having 775 grams of cocaine in her possession on Saturday, November 20, 2021, for the purpose of trafficking.
Magistrate Liverpool sentenced Melville to serve four years in prison, along with a fine of $798,750. Police arrested Melville at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport, Ogle, East Coast Demerara, on Saturday, November 20, after a search on her body revealed that she was carrying a stuffed condom filled with cocaine.
The condom and its contents were later extracted from her vagina. Police headquarters had noted that the suspect, who was booked on Caribbean Airlines flight #BW 215 destined for Barbados, was requested to be searched after she was observed acting suspiciously.
Police said a physical search was done and she passed out the bulky package. She was also questioned and admitted to swallowing 73 cocaine pellets.
She was arrested and taken to a hospital to excrete the cocaine-filled pellets.
