MARCIE De Santos, who has been making waves in the local fashion designing industry over the past several years, is taking her career to new heights with her plans to establish her signature men’s boutique that will among other things, cater for couples seeking matching outfits.
Though mum on the exact launch date, Marcie told The Buzz that plans are moving ahead and that they will soon become a reality.
“Clients are always enquiring about men’s wear; some are seeking matching outfits for their partners. So it is a need that has existed, but only now can I move to fulfill it,” she said.

The new showroom will provide polo shirts, other shirts and complete outfits for men of all ages “who are seeking a unique, stylish, classy look and who want to stand out in any crowd.” The Coronavirus Pandemic has significantly hampered Marcie’s plans but currently, she is working on increasing the variety of fabrics that she’s using, possibly cotton and linens, to satisfy the demands of her clientele and also to attract new ones.
Just recently, Marcie said she was honoured to do an outfit for First Lady Arya Ali and loved the fact that photos of the dress went viral. It is this type of encouraging feedback she receives that convinces her that she has a talent for designing.

Growing up, Marcie said she has always been interested in fashion and recalled taking note of fashionably dressed women. “I would picture in my mind how I could add some excitement to their wardrobe. I used to create fashion sketches, but could not find any seamstresses to accurately interpret my ideas or give me a perfect fit,” she reflected. This motivated her to become more involved in fashion. “However, it was fate that really caused me to pursue a career in fashion. I was at university and there was a particular course that was only offered on Saturdays, being a Seventh Day Adventist, I was unable to attend. As a result, I took a year’s leave. It was during that year break I began to take fashion seriously.”

Her notable achievements include winning the award for the most promising designer at Guyana Fashion Week 2008, being selected by Caribbean Export to participate in the Dominicana Moda 2013 in the Dominican Republic, participating in the New York Fashion Week 2014 and being selected to represent Guyana at Carifesta 2017. “Remaining relevant for this long in the fashion industry is in itself a great achievement,” she said. In 2009 Marcie was a member of Guyana’s delegation led by CEO and founder of GFW, acclaimed designer Sonia Noel that participated in the 13th Ningbo

International Fashion in Ningbo, China, one of the biggest fashion and trade fairs worldwide. In 2011 she showcased her talent regionally through participation at the US Virgin Islands Fashion Week, and the Bridgetown Barbados Fashion Weekend in October, and the Antigua and Barbuda Fashion Weekend in November. April of the following year saw her participating in the Tobago Fashion Weekend. Despite her schedule and the competitive nature of the fashion design business, Marcie said she ensures that she finds time to give back.
