After losing to their arch foes Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, the Guyana Jaguars will be hunting a win today against the Windward Volcanoes, as the preliminary rounds of the tournament wraps up.
After a brief hot streak, Guyana, with 12 points in 2nd place, had their momentum halted by the number one ranked Trinidadians but will now have to muster up some fight to get back on track.
Volcanoes are currently placed 3rd behind the Jaguars but any slight hiccups could see Guyana slipping down the table, an error they will want to stay far from especially with the tournament bearing its end.
With most of the veterans like Leon Johnson, Chris Barnwell, Anthony Bramble, Chandrapaul Hemraj primarily either having half-century or a century scores to their credit, batting will be the least of their worries despite only Hemraj being the top-scorer in the last game.
With Tevin Imlach taking Assad Fudadin’s spot at the top and making a well-composed 38, one big plus for the Jaguars today will be seeing more batting contributions from their junior all-rounders.
Kevin Sinclair, Gudakesh Motie, Ramaal Lewis have all been exceptional with the ball but given their talents as handy lower-order batsmen, more will be required from them in the death overs.
One plus for the Jags is the return of Veerasammy Permaul and Raymon Reifer from international duties in Bangladesh, if they play it could offer more to Guyana in this crucial latter stage of the tournament.
Windwards will want alot from Andre Fletcher at the top, especially after he is the best batsman in the team and their current leading run-scorer.
Skipper Sunil Ambris will also want to convert his starts while the likes of :Kimani Mileus, Kevin Stoute, Emmanuel Stewart and others will need to regain some batting confidence against a top-class Jaguars bowling attack.
The Volcanoes also have some stars with the ball in spinners Preston Mcsween, left-arm spinner Larry Edward, seamer Obed Mccoy and the Bajan Stout, who is a seasoned wicket taking bowler.
Both teams will know the severity of the stakes today and Guyana more so, looking to break a near 2-decade Super50 jinx, will be ultra keen on getting a big win and looking forward to possibly rematch against arch rivals, Trinidad.
Today’s match bowls off at 9:00h.
