Leroy Hercules, 28, of Durban Street, Georgetown, was killed after he collided with another motorcyclist at Plum Park, Sophia, Georgetown, on Monday night, at around 19:30 hours. The father of two was a serving member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF). The accident involved motorcycle CG 9908 that was driven by a resident of Plum Park, Sophia and the motorbike CJ 7787 that was driven by Hercules. An eyewitness alleged that both motorcyclists were speeding when they crashed into each other while heading in the opposite direction. Reports indicate that Hercules swerved from a load of sand on the carriageway and in doing so he got into the accident. Public-spirited citizens picked up both men and shuttled them to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where Hercules was pronounced dead. The other accident victim was admitted. Police said Hercules was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and he suffered a broken neck and multiple injuries. Hercules was the youngest of 12 siblings and his death has left his family in a state of shock. A post mortem on his remains is expected to be done today.
