Four elderly men among latest COVID-19 casualties

FOUR elderly men, aged 84, 59, 83 and 90 respectively, succumbed to COVID-19 over the past 48 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities since the deadly virus struck here to 184.
According to a release from the Ministry of Health, the men died while receiving care at a medical facility between Thursday 11 and Friday 12, of February, 2021.
In addition to those four men, the Ministry of Health has recorded 89 new cases in the past two days. Of the number, two were recorded in Region One (Barima-Waini); one in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam); five in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara); a whopping 59 in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica); four in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice); three in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne); six in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni); one in Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni); and eight in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice).

No new cases were recorded in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
At present, the number of persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) stands at seven. Forty-one persons remain institutionally isolated, while a discomfiting 666 represent the number of persons in home isolation.
All citizens of Guyana are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
