‘Dribbler’ remanded for allegedly murdering taxi driver

LEROY Jones appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, charged with shooting taxi driver, Osafo Pollard, to death, and was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Jones also called “Dribbler” was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

The charge alleged that Jones, between February 2 and February 3, 2021, at North East La Penitence, murdered Pollard.

According to the facts, on December 26, 2020 an altercation occurred between Pollard, Jones, and Jones’ friends at a night club during which Pollard’s life was threatened.

On February 2, 2021 about 20:45 hours, Pollard left home for a party but decided to make a stop at his friend’s home. While at his friend’ home, both he and his friend decided to attend a party which was being held next door to Jones’ home in North East La Penitence.

When they arrived at the location, Pollard parked his motor vehicle on the roadway while his friend went into the yard where Jones lived. Pollard’s friend went to greet Jones while Pollard remained on the roadway near to his vehicle.

After sometime his friend returned to where he was and Pollard later decided that he would go to a nearby location to collect drinks.

Pollard ended up in Jones’ yard.

Shortly after, persons heard a loud explosion. Pollard was found lying on the concrete step which leads to the doorway of Jones’ home with a wound to the head.

The wounded man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he succumbed to his injuries on February 3 about 00:25 hours.

Police were unable to make contact with Jones following the shooting.

On February 4, about 00:05 hours, he turned himself in at the Brickdam Police Station. He was told of the allegation and cautioned.

He was later arrested and charged with murder.

The matter was adjourned until March 2.
