SEVENTY-four recruits, including 23 females, have successfully completed the Basic Recruit Course (BRC) 2020-2021.
The BRC had commenced in October 2020 and concluded on Monday, at the Colonel John Clarke Military School at Tacama, Berbice.
Chief of Staff, Brigadier Godfrey Bess congratulated the new soldiers on their perseverance and commitment to success throughout the course.
He reiterated the constitutional responsibilities of the GDF, and, in the process, reminded that their new career was grounded in service to the nation.
In this regard, he encouraged them to continue embracing discipline, duty, commitment and professionalism as the basis for their delivery of exemplary service to the citizens of Guyana.

It was emphasised that their duty as soldiers was to serve: to carry out tasks assigned by Commanders and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers; to ensure the successful completion of all operations and missions, and ensure the safety and security of all of GDF bases, locations, kit and equipment.
“We expect you to commit yourselves to being the best soldiers you can be. Serve with professionalism as the hallmark of your service,” the Chief of Staff emphasised.
The Course’s Best Graduating Student was Private (PTE) Dequan Pyle, while PTE Towalda Richmond copped the runner-up award.
The award for Best Military Knowledge went to PTE Wanda Marshall.
PTE Shemroy Wood gained the Best Fitness Award; PTE Darius Williams won the award for Best Shot; PTE Marlon Nicholson got the award for Best Drill, while the Number Three Platoon was adjudged the Best Platoon.
