
SHAFEEK Mohammed, who is on trial for stabbing a man to death during an argument, on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to the charge. He appeared before Justice Navindra Singh at the Demerara High Court where a 12-member jury was empanelled.The murder indictment read to Mohammed alleged that, on February 3, 2016, at Marshall Street, Annandale South, East Coast Demerara, he murdered 33-year-old Ramkarran Mohanlall. Mohammed is being represented by Attorney-at-law Latchmie Rahamat, while Prosecutor Teriq Mohammed is on record for the State. The Guyana Chronicle was made to understand that Mohammed is the brother-in-law of Mohanlall’s wife. On the day in question, the two men were involved in a heated argument which turned violent when Mohammed allegedly stabbed Mohanlall several times about his body. Mohanlall was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
