THIRTY-six-year-old Biron David of Charles Street, Dartmouth, Region Two spent New Year’s day in the lock-up after he lost control of his car and crashed into a parked black Xtrail on the Perth Public Road.

The accident occurred around 01:30h; this newspaper understands that David was heading north in his hire car bearing registration number HB 4847 when he collided with PXX 8695, owned by Dave Rambaran.

David claimed that his wife was continuously calling him on his cell phone and when he attempted to answer, he lost control, collided with the vehicle and landed in a nearby trench.

Residents, who were still ushering in the New Year, rushed to his rescue. Police were summoned to the scene; the car was pulled out from the trench and the unhurt driver was taken into police custody.
