-four arrested
FOUR persons were arrested in Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast after ranks from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) found 150 pounds of marijuana valued US$80,000 on Saturday.
Three men and a woman were taken into custody after a surveillance operation was conducted in the village and law enforcement swopped down on the house.
This newspaper was informed that the marijuana arrived from Venezuela; it was already packaged with a label resembling the flag of England on it.
When contacted, Head of CANU, James Singh, confirmed the narcotics seizure and explained that the anti-drug agency will be extending is operations countrywide with the aim of disrupting the routes in the drug trade.
“We are not waiting at the airports or wharfs. We are coming where you feel comfortable, we are not going to allow any community to become contaminated, we are working closer with the community policy groups and other agencies, we want to continue to build public confidence and trust,” Singh told this publication.
