– three suspects arrested
POLICE are investigating the murder of 26-year-old Kevin Allam, a gold miner of Turn Basin, Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD), in Region One, whose throat was slit by bandits on Friday last.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that the robbery/murder occurred at about 17:30hrs at White Water Backdam, NWD, and was committed, allegedly, by three males.
It is alleged that Allam’s reputed wife was at their shop when the suspects approached and held her by the hair. Having observed this, Allam went to her assistance when the other two suspects pounced on him and dealt him several lashes about his body with a piece of wood until he became motionless.
He was then dragged a short distance away, where one of the suspects took out a knife and slit his throat, while another suspect held him down. The bandits then proceeded into the shop and removed some raw gold but did not harm the wife after she pleaded for her life.
The victim was subsequently picked up by the police and escorted to the Port Kaituma Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
On Saturday, police at Port Kaituma, acting on information received, went to the water front and arrested the three suspects. They remain in custody as the investigation continues.
