PLEDGING his commitment to the people of Guyana, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, conducts a weekly grassroots exercise known as ‘taking government to the people’, in an effort to address issues affecting citizens.

The exercise is conducted every Saturday, at Annandale, East Coast Demerara, from 10:00hrs to 12:00hrs and has been ongoing since September 2020.
When the Sunday Chronicle visited the forum on Saturday, there were over 150 persons in attendance, hailing from Essequibo to Berbice. They had the opportunity to voice their concerns pertaining to a wide range of issues they face.

Nandlall addressed the concerns by having one-on-one discussions with the aggrieved parties, and for issues not within his ministerial portfolio he recommended the relevant ministry to the citizens and would contact the subject minister to make sure the matter is dealt with.
A group of 20 fishermen, from Enmore, East Coast Demerara were present at the event on Saturday; they explained that the channel at Enmore, East Coast Demerara was blocked and their boats were unable to moor.

Nandlall informed the group that it was a matter for the Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, who meets with members of the public every Friday at his ministry. Nandlall took the contact information of the group and passed on same to the Minister of Agriculture.

“Taking government to the people is a campaign promise by the PPP/C and it has always been the style of politics of the party since Jagan. The tradition was continued by Bharrat Jagdeo. He took his entire cabinet to the people and now we are back in government we will continue it,” Nandlall told the Sunday Chronicle.

He urged Guyanese, regardless of their political affiliation, to participate in the forum every Saturday.
The initiative is expected to be rolled out across the country, so that persons from remote areas would not have to travel long distances to meet a government minister
