A 26-year-old pork knocker lost his life on Sunday, following a mining pit accident which occurred at Arena Backdam, Region One.
The victim has been identified as Erroll Ramitt called “Tushi” of Port Kaituma, North West District.
Police said that, at around 14:30hrs, Ramitt was in the mining pit operating a marrock engine when a piece of land fell and covered him.
Immediately following the incident, the man’s colleagues began digging in a bid to rescue him. It took about 30 minutes for them to locate him and by that time he was motionless.
His body was transported to the Port Kaituma Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
