A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy with a disability, who is a pupil of Virginia Primary School, Cane Grove Village, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD), drowned in the said village canal on Monday.
Reports indicate that the boy from Saywac, Cane Grove, was born with a disability and lives with his father and mother.
On Monday, his father and sister were at home with him when sometime during the day he left home unbeknown to anyone.
However, the police said around 17:30hrs an alarm was raised after the boy was not seen, and as a result, a search party was launched and persons later went into a canal on the southern side of the road where they carried out a search.
During the search they discovered the boy in the trench without clothes.
After the discovery, the boy was taken out of the canal and placed on the dam.
The police were summoned and subsequently the body was examined and it was observed that the boy had a cut on his left hand which had stitches.
His father was interviewed and the information received was that his son was jumping a fence in the area about a week ago and his hand was cut by a zinc in the process.
The boy was later taken to the CC Nicholson Hospital where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty and later escorted to the Lyken Funeral Home where he awaits an autopsy as an investigation continues.
