THE semi-finals and final of the Guyana Tennis Association (GTA)-organised ITF-sponsored Safe Tennis Tournament will take place this weekend at the Le Ressouvenir Tennis Court, on the East Coast of Demerara.

The three-week tournament, which re-started the sport after a lengthy break due to the pandemic, had its last weekend of preliminary games last Saturday and Sunday.
From 19 participants, only four are left.
On Saturday (November 21), Benjaton Osbourne is scheduled to meet Andre Lopes, while Gavin Lewis would tackle Heimraj Resaul; with the winners meeting in the grand final on Sunday (November 22).

Along with those games, there will also be consolation semi-finals, with Ronald Murray playing David Rose and Wayne Baker challenging Javed Khan.
According to one of the tournament coordinators, Lopes, the consolation games are geared to give players extra playing time.

On Friday night, Lewis got past Rose 6-1, 6-1, while Jason Andrews got the better of Devon Gonsalves 6-3, 6-1.
When the main draw continued over the weekend, Lopes, who went 2-0 in the first week of play, got the better of Viraj Sharma 6-1 6-4, while Osbourne defeated Tom Watkins 1-6 6-4 (10-7). Lewis also registered another win 7-6 (8-6), this time against Leyland Leacock. The game ended after the latter retired.

In the other main draw clash over the weekend, Resaul defeated Jason Andrews 6-1 6-2.
