POLICE are hunting three men accused of murder who escaped from the Lusignan Prison after they jumped the south eastern fence of the facility on Wednesday morning.
The wanted men were identified as Alex Matthias of Good Hope, Essequibo Coast; Arnold Kennedy of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo and Mark Rafino of Goed Intent, West Bank Demerara.
Police said the men escaped sometime between 17:30hrs Tuesday and 06:00hrs Wednesday.
Reports indicated that the three inmates were inside the prison when prison guards did their regular checks at 17:00hrs Tuesday.
However, at about 23:00hrs, the Joint Services ranks on the ground received information that prisoners had escaped. An alarm was raised but searches came up empty-handed.
However, it was not until 06:00hrs Wednesday when a head count was made that the prison authorities realised the men were missing.
Alex Matthias is accused of the murder of a man at Pomona Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast in December 2018. He was committed to stand trial in the High Court.
Mark Rafino was committed to stand trial in the High Court for attempted murder of a barber at Richmond, Essequibo Coast. He was granted bail and he was also on trial for the East Coast robbery of a money changer and his daughter.
Kennedy and others were accused of the murder of Alvin Seenarine called “Chockoloo”, of 820 ‘G’ Zeelugt North, East Bank Essequibo, in July 2019.
