ANGELA KHAN, on Monday, confessed to killing her 37-year-old friend during a drinking spree at her Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara home in 2014.
Khan was arraigned before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow at the Demerara High Court for the capital offence of murder, but opted to plead guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.
The case against Khan is that, on August 24, 2014, she unlawfully killed Bharrat Singh called ‘Lusty’.

The woman was represented by attorney-at-law, Latchmie Rahamat, while the state was represented by prosecutor, Teriq Mohammed.
According to reports, on the day in question, Khan, her reputed husband Dhaniram Seewah and Singh were all consuming alcohol.
Khan was seated in a hammock cutting up “seasoning” with a knife, when she asked her reputed husband to fetch water for her.
Following an argument, Seewah refused to fetch the water which resulted in Khan using the knife to slash his upper body.
Seewah armed himself with a window frame and used it to hit Khan on her foot. Singh, in attempt to restore peace attempted to take away the knife from Khan, but was instead stabbed to his chest.
Seewah managed to take the knife away from Khan and threw it into the yard. Singh went to the lower flat of the home and was given some sugar water to drink. He stayed at the bottom of the house on some wooden pallets, where he later succumbed.
Justice Barlow, in handing down her sentence, started with 10 years, from which she deducted 1/3 of the years after taking Khan’s plea into consideration. The judge then ordered the prison authorities to calculate the final sentence.
