– two Barbadian among six to face court today
SIX men will, today, appear in court after a Barbados registered cargo vessel laden with vegetables was searched this week at a Georgetown Wharf and on the second examination, over $60M of marijuana was discovered.
The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) seized 71 large bulk parcels of marijuana weighing 69.246 kilogrammes concealed in a section of the vessel marked “CV1 Barbados”.
Those arrested are Randy Welch, Trevor Robinson, James Emptage, Clyde Outridge, Hardat Monilall and Michael Forde.
CANU said the vessel was first searched last Tuesday and when searched again the following day, a large bulk parcel of suspected marijuana was uncovered concealed in a section of the vessel.
The anti-narcotics agency reported that two of the crew members on the vessel arrested are Barbadians and the four other suspects arrested are Guyanese.
CANU believes that the vessel has been in Guyana for several weeks and had undergone repairs while docked at the GNIC Wharf, Lombard Street, Georgetown.
The agency said it will continue to tighten its grip on narcotic distributors throughout the country.
