DEPUTY Chief Elections Officer (DCEO), Roxanne Myers, surrendered herself to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday, after she was tipped off that police were preparing to release a wanted bulletin, after she had been evading investigators for over a month.

Press Officer, Assistant Commissioner Royston Andries-Junor, in a press statement, noted that Myers’ attorney, Nigel Hughes, had given the impression that she was arrested and detained because she exercised the right to remain silent.

“Ms. Myers was arrested on October 6, 2020, after she turned herself in at CID Headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown, in the company of her attorneys, one of whom was Mr. Hughes,” the Assistant Commissioner said, adding: “This was following a period of time of over a month, during which several efforts were made by the police to contact Ms. Myers even at her place of work in relation to the post-March 2, 2020 elections incidents.”
Adding that Myers made every effort to elude the police investigators, the press officer noted that a wanted bulletin was prepared by the GPF but before it was issued she turned up at CID Headquarters in the company of her attorneys.

Further, the Assistant Commissioner said Myers was promptly arrested for the offence of “conspiracy to defraud” and she was told of the allegation at the said time. She then exercised her right to remain silent.
“Ms. Myers remains in police custody as the investigation continues into her actions during the post-March 2, 2020 elections incidents. The GPF wishes to reiterate that Ms. Myers was not detained by the Police because she remained silent, contrary to statements attributed to Mr. Hughes in the press. This is a distortion of the truth and the GPF rejects same,” the Press Officer noted.

However, attorney Nigel Hughes said he had the benefit of reading the press release issued by the Guyana Police force on the arrest of Roxanne Myers.

“I stand by all the statements I previously made, and invite the Guyana Police Force to release the contents of the station diary, at the CID HQ, which records the arrest of Ms Myers at 12.30 for the offence of perverting the court of justice, as entry number three recorded on the 6th day of October 2020,” Hughes said.
