A 38-year-old driver attached to Bakewell Limited, on Friday, succumbed to the injuries he sustained during a September 25 accident at Trafalgar Public Road, West Coast Berbice.
Dead is Ravindra Arjune of Section D, Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara. At the time of his death he was receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
According to reports, on September 25, 2020, around 09:15 hours, there was an accident involving a Nasir Company Limited (Bakewell Limited) motor lorry driven by Arjune, a motor lorry owned by Banks DIH Limited, Thirst Park, Georgetown and driven by a 32-year-old male of Cummings Park, Georgetown and a motor car owned and driven by a 43-year-old seaman of Edingburg, East Bank Berbice.
According to the police, the Banks DIH motor lorry was proceeding east along the northern lane at a fast rate of speed, while the motor car was proceeding in the opposite direction in front of the Bakewell motor lorry.
The police noted that according to the driver of the Banks DIH motor lorry, whilst he was proceeding, an unknown motor lorry suddenly stopped in front of him and, on seeing this, he applied brakes and pulled left (north) then changed back to right (south) and collided into the rear of the motor car causing it to spin and face east. The Banks DIH lorry then collided with the right side front portion of the Bakewell motor lorry.
As a result of the collision, the driver of the Bakewell motor lorry was pinned and subsequently taken out of the vehicle with help from public- spirited persons and taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital in a conscious condition.
He was seen and examined by the doctor on duty. He was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was being treated for injuries to various parts of his body.
On Friday, October 2, around 07:00 hours, Arjune died while receiving medical attention. His body is presently lying at Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
