POLICE have arrested a resident of Train Line, Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD), on Saturday, after he was allegedly caught having sex with the corpse of a 56-year-old woman at the Port Kaituma Hospital Mortuary.
The woman, who had tested positive for COVID-19, died on September 21, 2020. She was a farmer of 14 Miles, Arakaka, North West District.
Reports indicated that the suspect was seen in the mortuary committing the offence and police were immediately summoned.
He was subsequently arrested and placed in a facility for quarantine under police guard.
On Monday, police received legal advice to charge the suspect identified as Leroy Chacon with the offence of trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence.
According to a psychologist, necrophilia is a psychological condition that falls under the umbrella category of paraphilia. Paraphilia involves fantasies and sexual urges in which people are aroused by non-human objects or pain or humiliation of oneself or a sexual partner.
