Contractor falls to death at construction site

POLICE are investigating the death of a 69-year-old engineer who fell from a four-storey building at Lot 112-113 Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Saturday.
Dead is Keith Scipio of Lot 12 Kissoon Scheme, Good Hope, ECD.

Enquiries disclosed that, on Saturday, Scipio left home and went to work at the construction site of the four-storey steel and concrete building and, at about 10:35hrs, held a meeting with all the workers on site, on the fourth floor, after which everyone returned to work.

He was subsequently observed walking towards a hole, which is located at the centre of the building and eventually fell through it.
One of the workers, who witnessed the incident, said he tried to alert the engineer about the danger but was unsuccessful. After raising an alarm, he went to the bottom floor of the building and there he saw Scipio lying motionless on the concrete surface, with injuries to the head.

His body was picked up by co-workers and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
The body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
