THE Ministry of Labour, in collaboration with the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), has launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of Marques Cornelius, 29, of Singh’s Mining Operations on Monday.
Cornelius was fatally injured, on the job, when he was struck by a falling tree at Big Hope, Waini, Region One. The ministry, in a release, said arrangements were being made to visit the accident site and a report will be prepared which will include recommendations to prevent a recurrence.

“The Minister of Labour is deeply concerned about the recent fatality and offers condolences to the family of the deceased,” the release concluded.
