THE quietude of an Onderneeming Sandpit Village, Region Two family was ruined on Saturday evening, when two mask men intruded their yard.
According to information reaching the Guyana Chronicle, tailor, Narindra Persaud, and his wife were on their veranda when the incident reportedly occurred around 19:45 hours.
Based on reports, he was shot in the foot during a suspected armed robbery.
According to the 39-year-old tailor, he and his wife were approached by the two masked men from the side of the house. The suspects reportedly held the two victims at gunpoint and told them to remain quiet.
The man and his wife began screaming for help and ran into their house through the front veranda, which was left open. As the victims fled, the masked men opened fire in their direction. The tailor reportedly received injuries to his foot and cried out in pain.
The suspects later fled the scene.
The police were summoned and the tailor was escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital where he received medical attention and was later discharged. The suspects are said to be hiding in the Onderneeming backdam.
Residents at a number of community meetings have called for a police outpost in the area to tackle criminal activities there.
