THE Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT), in collaboration with the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), has made provision for COVID-19 mothers, who recently gave birth, to be able to see their children through technology.
With the ongoing pandemic, COVID-19 mothers who recently delivered at the institution were unable to bond with their babies, due to the risks associated with contact.
“With the provision of these SIMs, we have created the opportunity for mothers to be able to at least see their newborns,” said GTT’s Public Relations Manager, Jasmin Harris.

“This pandemic has affected us, maybe in different ways, but it has definitely impacted us all. We are committed to assist where we can, acknowledging that we are in this together,” Harris added.

GTT will provide data to two SIMs until December 2020. Harris said “We will donate 40GB of data per month until December 2020, to ensure mothers are able to connect with their newborns. Should the need continue beyond December 2020, we will provide ongoing service to our mothers.”
Strategic Planning and Communications Manager at GPHC, Chelauna Providence, received the SIMs on behalf of the hospital. “GPHC is pleased to accept this generous donation from GTT which is an extension of the support that GTT has given to our healthcare workers from the inception of our Covid-19 response in Guyana,” she shared.
Providence added that the donation was special to the hospital as it would allow mothers in the Covid-19 maternity unit to be able to connect with their newborns through technology.
