UNICEF joins fight against COVID-19

THE United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), on Monday, handed over a quantity of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Health Ministry to support the national response to COVID-19.

A symbolic handover was done by acting UNICEF Country Representative for Guyana and Suriname, Irfan Akhtar, to Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony, at the minister’s office on Brickdam.

According to a release, the PPE included 1,600 N95 face masks; 12,300 disposable face masks; 1,920 goggles; 1,390 coveralls; and 1,250 surgical gowns for health workers to protect themselves and to protect children and families.

The supplies are part of the wider UNICEF response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Guyana which has, over the past few months, seen support provided to various governmental and other agencies.
