FORMER Regional Commander of Region Eight, Senior Superintendent, Ramesh Ashram, has been reassigned and will be the new traffic chief, while the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) will be headed by Superintendent, Fazil Karimbaksh.
As the Guyana Police Force (GPF) undergoes restructuring, the superintendents commenced duties on Wednesday, at their respective offices.
The new SOCU head was previously seconded to the Civil Defence Commission (CDC). Former Commander of Region Four ‘A’ Division, Phillip Azore, is expected to be his replacement.

Earlier this month, Commissioner of Police, Leslie James, and Deputy Police Commissioner, Maxine Graham, were sent on pre-retirement leave.
The former traffic chief, Senior Superintendent Linden Isles is now the commander of Region Six, while the former Region six commander, Senior Superintendent Calvin Brutus, will be heading to the Force’s Headquarters, where he will take over from Deputy Commissioner, Paul Williams.
Last week, Senior Superintendent Wendell Blanhum returned as crime chief – replacing Senior Superintendent, Michael Kingston. Blanhum was previously serving as police commander of Region One.
Also, Senior Superintendent, Ewart Wray, head of the GPF’s Immigration Office, will be sent to Force headquarters, where he will be assisting Senior Superintendent Brutus. Superintendent Dennis Stephens will now be heading the Immigration Office.
Further, Superintendent Boodnarine Persaud is now deputy commander of Region Three.
On Monday, the Guyana Police Force announced that Deputy Commissioner of Police, Paul Williams, was sent on his outstanding 192 days’ annual leave.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent, Phillip Azore has taken up a post at the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) on Tuesday.
Azore was the acting Commander of the Police Regional Division 4-A, and was replaced by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Simon Mc Bean, who now overlooks from Cummings Lodge on the East Coast to Agricola on the East Bank of Demerara (ECD).
